When was the last time that you asked God to bless you with something or to even change your current circumstance? We go to God in prayer even when we are just thinking we’re just talking to him about our lives.

There’s something so pure and refreshing about leaving our burdens in his hands. Some of us have a difficult time just letting God's will be done. We are blinded by our issues that we ignore God's favor. Some of us will constantly check in on God to see if he’s working on our lives. We may try to monitor the issues that we left in his hand.

Let me be open with you and say that I sure have checked in on God. I’m a recovering control freak. Yeah, you read that last sentence right! I used to go above and beyond to try to plan my life in my Happy Planner for weeks on in. I needed control over every area in my personal life. My yearning for control left me with anxiety, raging ADHD, and spirals of depression.

What I had to do was to learn how to surrender myself and spirit to God fully. We are no match for our flesh. Our desires, egos, and selfishness are all a part of our flesh and can hinder us from growing a stronger relationship with Christ. I started asking myself in journal entries deep questions about my desire for control.

I realized that my desire for control was created by me because of my upbringing. I grew up in poverty. I had control until I was a teenager to break the generational curses within my immediate family. My desire for control was fed by pain and discomfort with my upbringing. I always thought that maybe if I could plan my life ahead of time then I would be more comfortable with my results. The fruits of my labor were rotten. My outlook on life was only as far as I thought I could have planned.

I wasn’t living life to my fullest potential. Neither was I surrendering my life and worried spirit to God. It took a consistent prayer life and meditating on God’s word to relieve me from my control freak ways. God's still in the life-changing business.

Of course, change does not happen overnight. You have to apply yourself and God's word to see the results. Here are a few bible verses that I mediated and studied.

“And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.”

Romans 8:28 KJV

“Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.”

Philippians 4:6 KJV

“Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.”

1 Peter 5:7 KJV

“I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help.”

Psalms 121:1 KJV

“Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.”

Matthew 6:34 KJV

“In thee, O Lord, do I put my trust: let me never be put to confusion.”

Psalms 71:1 KJV

“But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost, Keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life.”

Jude 1:20-21 KJV

“For my love they are my adversaries: but I give myself unto prayer.”

Psalms 109:4 KJV

My prayer for you today is that God continues to bless you. I pray that you are freed from your desire for control in all areas of your life. If you enjoyed this blog post feel free to let me know by commenting in the comment box below.
