When support and love are poured into someone beautiful things can be manifested. During an emotional and heartfelt Oscars acceptance speech, Regina King said that she’s an example of what it looks like when support and love are poured into someone. She continued and said, "Mom, I love you so much," she said through tears. "Thank you for teaching me that God has always been leaning in my direction."

King also thanked author James Baldwin, whose novel is the basis for the film from director Barry Jenkins. Even at 48 years old Regina King never stopped chasing her dreams. Her mother’s prayers kept her going. Her self-confidence was possibly shaken at times, but she never gave up. I know she has been in Hollywood and acting for years. Regina King is just one of three black actresses who have won both an Oscar and a Primetime Emmy Award. The other two are Viola Davis and Halle Berry, who won their Oscars in 2016 and 2001, respectively. King also has three Emmys, which she won in 2015, 2016 and 2018.

King won the Oscar for best-supporting actress for her role in "If Beale Street Could Talk." It's the first Oscar and first nomination for King, who has won three Emmy Awards for her work on television. King has also won few other awards on her journey towards the Oscars’ win including the Golden Globe and Critics’ Choice Award. She also took home an Emmy Award last September for her role in the Netflix mini-series Seven Seconds.

From her Oscar award win, we can take away that her success did not take away from her humbleness. Her success was not just defined by winning prestigious awards, but those who kept her encouraged and lifted in prayer. I want to encourage you to never stop chasing your dreams. You may not have a supporting family or come from one.

You may not have million-dollar dreams, but you have what it takes! Stop doubting yourself and what you can obtain within this life. The only thing that is promised to us is death. Live the life that makes you proud. Live a life that will have a legacy. It may take years to get to where you desire to be. NEVER GIVE UP.
