What's scarier than Halloween? A man spinning the block just to have sex with a woman he used to deal with! BABY, THAT'S SPOOKY ASF! It is always a good time to look at the concerning rates of sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) and sexually transmitted infections (STIs) right here in Louisiana and in our neighboring cities. Some of these men are not coming back because they miss you, love you, or suddenly realized your worth. They are coming back because they want access to what they used to have without offering anything different!
So, one may ask what's even scarier? Well, how some people will knowingly put another person's sexual health at risk just to satisfy their own selfish desires. Everybody who returns to your life does not necessarily have good intentions. A familiar face also does not automatically mean a safe situation.
Let's talk about the statistics! This is not something women should be overlooking. According to the Louisiana Department of Health's 2024 surveillance data, Louisiana recorded 1,557 early syphilis diagnoses, including 357 cases in the Baton Rouge region and 263 in the New Orleans region. The New Orleans Health Department also reported that approximately 2 out of every 100 New Orleans residents were diagnosed with a bacterial STI in 2023.
Now, those numbers alone should make somebody think twice. Think
twice before entertaining an old flame who suddenly wants to come over after
months of silence. These statistics do not mean everybody has an infection.
However, they certainly highlight why sexual health, regular testing,
protection, and honest conversations should never be taken lightly.
Okay, now let us get into another uncomfortable conversation. Some men will disappear for months. They will entertain multiple women and then have the audacity to circle back around like nothing ever happened. There will of course be no accountability, no explanation, no genuine effort to rebuild anything. So do not prepare mentally for any of that.
He is just possibly going to shoot that random "WYD?" text at 10:47 p.m. as if that's supposed to make somebody forget everything they went through. SIR, THIS IS NOT A HAUNTED HOUSE, AND YOU ARE NOT ABOUT TO KEEP POPPING UP IN MY LIFE LIKE A GHOST THAT NEEDS TO BE BOOED.
What is also disturbing is that some
people may knowingly conceal an STI diagnosis. There are also some people that
expose their partners without being honest about their health. That is not
love, passion, or unfinished business at all. What becomes a serious violation
of trust, and depending on the circumstances, it can have legal consequences.
For any woman going through it and want out there must be a stop allowing loneliness, nostalgia, and sexual chemistry to override our common sense. What some women will have to accept is that just because somebody knows your body does not mean they deserve continued access to it. Plus, the sex used to be good does not mean the situation is healthy today. Then just because you've known a man for years does not mean you know what he has been doing during the months you were not dealing with him. Your sexual health is worth more than a temporary moment of pleasure.
Once he gets him you can easily
become an after thought. Being single is not nearly as frightening as finding
yourself dealing with a lifelong health condition, because you trusted somebody
who was not being truthful. Remember, many STIs can exist without noticeable
symptoms. Plus, there are so appearances, and familiarity cannot replace
testing and honest communication.
This Halloween season, I am more concerned about the ghosts from my past showing up in my messages than anything walking around in a costume. At least with Halloween, you know somebody is pretending to be somebody else, Sha! Some of these grown men will show up wearing the same familiar smile. They come in saying the same nothings to get them back in good graces with you, and they carry the same questionable intentions.
Oh, and no,
every man who spins the block is not infected or intentionally trying to harm
somebody. That is not the point of this post. However, that does not mean women
should ignore the risks that come with reconnecting sexually without having the
necessary conversations.
At this stage in my life, protecting my peace, my body, and my future will always be more important than entertaining somebody who possibly had a quality opportunity to be part of my life. Being single is not a punishment, and celibacy is not something to be ashamed of.
Sometimes the
safest decision you can make is leaving certain doors closed. It is best to do
this even when somebody familiar comes knocking. So, before you respond to that
late-night message from somebody who could not appreciate you the first time,
ask yourself whether a few hours of pleasure are worth potentially compromising
your health and peace of mind.
Cause baby, what's scarier than Halloween? A man spinning the block with nothing new to offer but the same old intentions, lame approaches, and possible health risks. NOW THAT'S SPOOKY ASF! 🎃
