According to Women's Health Government, “Most women ages 21 to 65 should get Pap tests as part of routine health care. Even if you are not currently sexually active, you should still have a Pap test.” Women who have gone through menopause and are younger than 65 still need regular Pap tests as well.

Many women probably think that getting their annual Pap smear test is a waste of time.

I would rather not wait until I think something is probably going out of whack before I schedule a visit with my local gynecologist or women's health clinic. Trust me, I made the mistake in the past before.

I started taking my sexual health serious at the age of 21. The female sexual health by my mother or auntie was not taught to me when I was growing up. Of course, I knew about my period, pads, tampons, and not using overly scented washes on my vagina. However, I did not know majority of what I now know today.

I had to discover a lot about my vaginal PH and the benefits of taking probiotics for my vaginal health. I used to be a hard-core candy and sweets addict until I started to have uncontrollable yeast infections. Plus, I didn't understand how much glycerin based lubes can have a negative affect on my vagina. I started searching for many DIY treatments that had no true results. Then, I went through boxes of Monistat, jars of unsweetened Greek Yogurt, and good ole cranberry juice.

I realized that Monistat and DIY’s can only cure and do so much before loving yourself enough to schedule a visit with a gynecologist.

Of course, I was embarrassed, and it affected my sex life with my husband. I had health care insurance and I decided to use it.

It was then when I understood how much sexual health can really affect your self-esteem, sex life, and overall health. I used to be a huge fan of using feminine washes and wipes too. Once I was supposedly cured of my recurring yeast infections that were really BV, I learned and experience the unusual side-effects that came along from being a long-time user of the most popular brands on the feminine health market. It was one thing for me to look good, but I truly wanted to feel good from the inside out and just working out and dieting wasn’t cutting it for my vaginal health.

Just because you are in a committed relationship, married, dating or single as a woman choosing to stay updated with your vaginal health is very important. If you can’t think of the last time you had a vaginal checkup then it’s time to schedule an exam. If your battling recurring yeast infections or even symptoms of something worst, it’s up to you to make things shake. If you don’t have health insurance because you can’t afford it then try to apply for Medicaid. Girl, you must make a way for yourself to get the help you deserve.

Don’t be embarrassed either your doctor has seen all types of vaginas and breasts along with all sorts of issues, be comfortable enough to seek help and reassurance. Your future self will thank you.
