My Three Words for 2021

in , , , by Linda B Hurd, December 01, 2021

I'm still shocked that it's already December! We are almost close to ending this year with a bang, baby! We not going out for 2021 bitter, upset, and punching at the air. Oh no, indeed. This year has been one hell of a year. As many of you know, my husband and I went our separate ways in late October. It was enlightening and heartbreaking all at the same time.

I cried some ole ugly cries. I lost sleep during the first few weeks of the separation and even my appetite. I for sure can say that I did not lose my mind through it all. I'm still going through the motions, but I am better mentally, emotionally, and spiritually than I was this same time last year.

My three words to sum up 2021 are: liberated, release, freedom

Liberated: I feel so much lighter. I can let my natural hair blow in the wind freely. I'm thankful for this joy. I am grateful for this happiness that is keeping me optimistic about what's coming ahead of me.

Release: I've been writing, crying, singing, dancing, and verbally expressing my thoughts this year. I have released people from my life without hesitating and bad habits. I've freed myself from cycles of unhappiness and having expectations for others. Releasing has brought me clarity, comfort, and peace.

Freedom: I found space while going through the motions of regaining my independence in the last quarter of the year. I never had true independence while I was living with my husband. I knew that I had enough of being placed on the back burner and not being able to just get out of the house we shared alone just for an hour every week. It feels good to be on the path to regaining my freedom.

There are many words that I could have used to highlight 2021, but these three have been the words that I am thankful for experiencing. I am living unapologetically for sure. What are three words that you would use to describe 2021?
