Maybe you know this. There is something about fall that makes a lot of folks slow down and notice the little things. What little things? I’m talking about the crisp bite in the morning that feels like a reset. The quiet moments before 6am when you may just want to lay underneath your blanket a little while longer. This season, I promised myself I wouldn’t rush through my days. I want to savor them. I’m talking about even the small ones that look ordinary on paper.

Romanticizing your life is what you make it. It can be as simple as discovering a new song to add to a playlist. It can be as simple as lighting a candle before you fold laundry. It is also even listening to motivational speakers on your commute to work. It’s making space for softness, even when the world feels loud.
If life feels routine, here are ten small ways I’m adding romance
and purpose this fall. Feel free to do so if you want to try any of them as well.
1. Candles & Wax Melts
Fall candles are so nice to have. When I walk around my apartment and the smell
of warm vanilla, cinnamon, or sandalwood I instantly feel grounded. I grab
inexpensive candles from Marshalls or Walmart. I light them while I’m cooking,
reading, or doing homework in the late evenings. You may even try spray air fresheners
as well. I’ve been loving the Embers & Sandalwood scent by Glade for wall plug-ins.
2. Simple Seasonal Décor
I just started this year purchasing furniture and décor for my apartment. I
love adding little touches that make my space feel warm and inviting. A $5
pumpkin from Walmart on the kitchen counter, a soft throw blanket on the couch,
or a simple wreath for the door can add some character to your place. All these
things remind me that this season is inviting and festive. I also enjoy seeing
how it excites my two kids as well.
3. Morning Coffee or Tea Routine
Instead of rushing through my mornings, I try to make ice coffee, a cappuccino,
or hot tea. There is no phone in my hands. There may be the morning news playing
in the back ground. But overall, it is just me, my thoughts, and that first sip
of my drink. It’s a small pleasure, but it sets the tone for the rest of the
day.
4. Fall Reading List
Whether I am physically going to the library or pulling out my Kindle there something
about reading in the fall that hits different. I have a few classics Urban
Fiction books that I’m making my way through this month. One personal
development book as well and audio. I am reading a few pages before bed helps
me wind down and feel like I did something just for me.
5. Romanticizing Chores
I used to put off doing certain chores. However, it’s part of my self-care. I
turn on a jazz, R&B, or gospel playlist and let it fill my apartment while
I mop, fold laundry, or clean the kitchen. I spray my room spray too. Finishing the cleaning session truly makes
the space feel clean and calm.
6. Slow, Comforting Dinners
This season I’m leaning into recipes that are filling, and I can have lefts overs
for a least a night or two. I’m talking about chili, creamy pasta, and sheet
pan chicken with veggies. I feel like cooking a simple but delicious dinner
three nights a week makes me feel connected to my place and my kids. We also sit
at the table. I put my phone on DND, and I am, then eating and talking with my
kids about how their day went.
7. Skincare Is Meaningful
Instead of just removing my makeup and letting my face be bare. I go into my
nighttime skin time routine with music playing as I cleanse my face. I apply serums
and moisturize like I’m in a spa. It’s a reminder that I deserve to have
glowing skin taken care that’s hydrated and radiant every day
8.
Journaling or Nighttime Reflections
At least three nights a week, I grab my journal and write down a few sentences
about my day. I sometimes audio journal and I talk about what went well, what I
want to improve, and what I’m grateful for. It doesn’t have to be long. Even
five minutes of writing helps me clear my mind and sleep better.
9. Mini Fall Adventures
I’ve been finding small ways to get out of the house and enjoy the season
without breaking my budget. Listen, a trip to the library with the kids, a trip
to a local park for a few hours, or a stop at museums in our city. These action-packed
adventures make memories and remind me there’s more to life than errands and
routines.
10. Saturday Lunch Dates
Football season used to mean I stayed home every weekend. However, this fall
I’m shaking things up. Every other Saturday, I treat myself to a lunch date…
even if it’s just me. Sometimes I’ll bring my kids. Other times, I’ll go alone
with a book or my journal. It’s my way of getting dressed up, getting out of
the house, and reminding myself that getting out and dining out is a treat!
Conclusion
Romanticizing
your life is simple. Slow down, be intentional, and appreciate small pleasures.
Whether
it’s a candle, a book, or a solo lunch date, these little habits make my days
feel softer and more meaningful.
This fall, I challenge you to add one or two pleasures
to your week and see how it shifts your mood. If you do share them with me! I’d
love to know how you’re romanticizing your life this season.
