There may come a time when we do not even notice the ways we dim our own light. We think we are humble. We may even be trying to keep the peace, but we are quietly shrinking day after day.

Here are a few ways that you might be shrinking yourself right before your own eyes, sis.

1. Downplay your accomplishments.
When someone congratulates you and your first response is, “Oh, for real” that’s a sign. You have worked hard to get where you are! Own it. Every time you minimize your success, you teach people without noticing that your greatness should be overlooked instead of being celebrated.

2. Apologize for your boundaries.
Have you avoided saying “no”? If you have it does not make you difficult. It makes you disciplined. If you find yourself over explaining or softening your boundaries so people will not be upset, then you are putting their comfort above your peace.

3. Laugh off disrespect.
When someone says something slick and you smile instead of speaking up. Let me tell you, that is not extending grace.  It is suppressive. You are allowed to correct people who cross the line. Silence might keep peace for a moment. However, do not allow your silence to kick rocks at your self-respect.

4. Hide your voice.
Maybe you do not post that opinion because you fear judgment. Even knowing you do not like how someone is treating you in your personal life, and you still tolerate them without saying a word and you are grown. Your perspective matters. Understand that speaking your mind is part of the program that other people are not bigger than who are disrespecting you.

5. Compare your journey.
If you find yourself feeling as if your wins do not measure up to someone else’s timeline then you can snatch away your own joy.  Confidence doesn’t compete. Confidence radiates.

6. Over-explain your worth.
When you find yourself convincing people to see your value. Convincing people of your value is a sign you have forgotten that your value doesn’t depend on their vision. You are the prize and not the proof.

Shrinking happens in small ways. It shows up in the pause before you speak. Shrinking can be displayed in the text you delete. Shrinking can also be felt in the makeup you were going to wear, but you told yourself it was doing too much. However, the moment you recognize that you are taking away from your own glow, you can stop it.

Take your energy back.

Speak with love but stand firm.

God did not design you to fit in.

He designed you to shine through.
