No More Hiding Behind My Hair

in , , , by Linda B Hurd, October 21, 2020

After 4 years of growing out my natural hair without a big chop for 9 years of begin natural, I finally had the courage to cut my hair. My problem with deciding on cutting my hair shorter was solely wrapped around the hiding I enjoyed with my shoulder-length natural curls. My hormonal acne and hyperpigmentation from acne scars left my face riddled with imperfections.

When you are driven by a passionate impulse to do something that will fulfill your spirit, act on it. I recently acted on a dynamic, driven impulse to cut my own natural hair on the first Wednesday of September 2020! I love Wednesdays, and I also wanted to switch up my look. I started off just going through the motions of my regular wash day.

Six months into transition back to my natural hair I was ready to chop off my relaxed ends. The relaxed seven inches of hair that no longer validated my beauty. The relaxed seven inches of hair that I believed that I no longer needed to feel accepted by my peers. The relaxed seven inches of hair that I held on to because I thought that my then boyfriend would hate seeing me without.

When I was pregnant I was very pleased with the growth of my natural hair. My natural hair was so much more longer and healthier. Chile, my hair was thriving after I started taking Ferrous Sulfate for my iron deficiency. I will do a blog post about my iron deficiency soon as well.

There is so much more to natural hair than the eye can see. Having natural hair is truly unique and very special. There is no one person that can say that having and growing your natural hair is wrong. I have been natural for over 5 years and here are some of the misconceptions about natural hair that I have came across. Brace yourselves for this read...
Yesterday, I went to my nearest Fantastic Sams for a what could have just been a trim, but it ended up being a complete hair cut. I truly wanted to part with a few inches of my natural hair weeks ago. It took me spending over three hours flat ironing my hair to see that my healthy hair practices had paid off. I now wonder why so many people awe over long natural hair, but what about aweing over healthy hair?
